Meet Pavan Patel: A Dynamic Leader with a Vision for Cumberland County

Pavan Patel, a distinguished entrepreneur and committed community leader, is making waves in Cumberland County as a formidable candidate for County Commissioner, District 2. Born in New York City and proudly calling Fayetteville home for 28 years, Pavan's roots run deep in the community. His goal was always to return home to his family and to Fayetteville, though, where he now shares a life with his wife of 7 years, Dr. Amruta Bahekar, and his two beloved dogs, Mika and Copper.

A graduate of Terry Sanford High School, Pavan earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later obtained his Master of Business Administration from Babson’s F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business. Pavan's journey into commercial real estate began during his undergraduate years when he invested in a rental property while also earning his real estate license, laying the foundation for his subsequent ventures.

In 2013, Pavan founded Willow Group Investments, where he currently serves as the owner and CEO. His diverse real estate portfolio includes ownership of five Tropical Smoothie Cafes and extensive leadership roles in renowned hospitality brands such as Hilton and Marriott.

Beyond his entrepreneurial success, Pavan's commitment to community service is evident throughout his impressive track record. From serving on the Methodist University Foundation Board to chairing the City of Fayetteville’s Zoning Commission for a second consecutive year, Pavan has consistently contributed his skills and expertise to various boards and committees.

Pavan's leadership extends to the Cumberland County Tourism Development Authority, where he proudly serves as vice chair since 2016. His dedication to the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County includes serving on the board of trustees, on the executive committee and the organization's Treasurer. He is an actively participated in the CEO search committee, and assuming roles strategic planning committee, public art's, and finance committee. 

A cultural advocate, Pavan serves as the president of the Southeastern North Carolina Asian Indian Association (SENCAIA). His commitment to diversity and community engagement earned him recognition as one of The Fayetteville Observer’s 40 Under 40 at the age of 30.
