Meet Pavan Patel: A Dynamic Leader with a Vision for Cumberland County

A visionary entrepreneur and dedicated community leader, Pavan Patel is running for County Commissioner in District 2 with a clear commitment to the growth and well-being of Cumberland County. Born in New York City and a proud Fayetteville resident for 28 years, Pavan has deep roots in the community he calls home. He shares his life with his wife of seven years, Dr. Amruta Bahekar, and their two beloved dogs, Mika and Copper.

Pavan's journey of success began at Terry Sanford High School and continued at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He later obtained his Master of Business Administration from Babson’s F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business. While still in college, Pavan took his first steps into commercial real estate, purchasing a rental property and earning his real estate license—planting the seeds for a thriving career.

In 2013, Pavan founded Willow Group Investments, where he now serves as owner and CEO. His entrepreneurial ventures span a diverse real estate portfolio, including five Tropical Smoothie Cafes and leadership positions with major hospitality brands like Hilton and Marriott.

Beyond his business achievements, Pavan’s heart has always been in community service. His leadership is reflected in roles such as vice chair of the Cumberland County Tourism Development Authority (since 2016) and chair of the City of Fayetteville’s Zoning Commission, where he is serving his second term. He also contributes to the Methodist University Foundation Board and is an active trustee of the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County, where he has taken on key roles in the executive committee, public art initiatives, finance, and strategic planning.

As president of the Southeastern North Carolina Asian Indian Association (SENCAIA), Pavan champions diversity and cultural engagement. His outstanding contributions earned him a spot on The Fayetteville Observer’s 40 Under 40 at the young age of 30.

Pavan’s decision to run for County Commissioner is driven by his lifelong passion for responsible leadership and sustainable development. He seeks to bring fresh ideas, innovative solutions, and a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all in Cumberland County.
